April 13th, 2010

“I have both held and beheld unlimited power and of it I know but one thing. It drives men mad.” –Alexander the Great
Seven wonders of the ancient world was compiled for a reason. According to Mathew Reilly Alexander the Great broke the Capstone into seven pieces and hid each piece in one of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World. A rare solar event called the Tartarus Rotation is scheduled to occur. Whoever assembles all seven pieces of the Capstone at this particular time and under certain specific conditions will gain absolute power for the next thousand years. The catch is that if failed to assemble this at the right time the earth is doomed to oblivion.
So much power surely going to get many countries to scramble their forces to get a hold of that Capstone for themselves. But a team led by Jack West Junior, where few countries have put their best people in the team wants to secure it so that they can save the world from the doom. The capstone is hidden well, so there are crypts to be broken, time based traps to be overcome. Just sit back and let Jack West Junior run the show..!

“Ice Station” by Matthew Reilly

March 3rd, 2010

Ice Station is the first Novel i started after finishing Harry Potter series. Obviously i didn’t had much expectation due to the fact that i was used to the high standards set by J.K Rowling. But i was proven wrong, and found out that this is a different league of action thriller books.

Synopsis i got from the official web site of Matthew Reilly(I don’t want to give more details you see.! :-) )

“At a remote ice station in Antarctica, a team of US scientists has made and amazing discovery. They have found something buried deep within the coastal ice shelf. Something trapped inside a 100-million-year-old layer of ice. Something made of metal.

It is the discovery of a lifetime. A discovery of immeasurable value. A discovery men would kill for…

Led by an enigmatic Lieutenant Shane Schofield, a team of crack United States Marines is rushed to the station to secure this discovery for their country. They are a tight unit. Tough and fearless. They would follow their leader into hell. They just did…

In a land without boundaries, the only law is survival.”

Lieutenant Shane Schofield is one of the best character created by the author. He gives life to the character not by word of glory but by action. After you finish the novel you’ll feel like you have just finished an action packed Hollywood thriller movie… :)

So Enjoy the show..!

“Mitch Rapp is extremely good at what he did. And what he did when you stripped everything away was kill. Yes, he had great intelligence. He spoke Arabic, French and Italian fluently. He had keen analytical abilities and organizational skills, but when you stripped it all away he was an assassin. He was America’s assassin, though. He was the very tip of the U. S. spear, the man on the ground getting things done, taking the battle to the very enemy who had sworn to bring a reign of terror and death to the people of the United States. Mitch Rapp was the front line soldier in the most singular sense of the word. In this era of laser-guided bombs, cruise missiles and surgical strikes, he was a neurosurgeon, operating in countries like Iran and Iraq for months at a time with virtually no aid from his handlers in Washington. He stalked his prey carefully, got in close and then when the time was right, he eliminated them. ”

Autism and Autistic Savant Syndrome

November 21st, 2009

This is one of the intersting part of the Novel “The Last Oracle” Where the author James Rollins gives some insight to Autism and Autistic Savant Syndrome.

Quotes first :
Dr. Temple Grandin – “If by some magic, autism had been eradicated from the face of the earth, then men would still be socializing in front of a wood fire at the entrance to a cave.”
Socrates about the Oracle of Delphi: “The greatest blessings granted to mankind come by way of madness, which is a divine gift.”
Autism is a disorder of neural development that is characterized by impaired social interaction and communication, and by restricted and repetitive behavior. These signs all begin before a child is three years old. Autism involves many parts of the brain; how this occurs is not well understood.
An autistic savant is an autistic person with extreme talent in one or more areas of study. Although there is a common association between savant syndrome and autism , most autistic people are not savants and savantism is not unique to autistic people, though there does seem to be some relation. A prodigious savant is someone whose skill level would qualify him or her as a prodigy, or exceptional talent, even in the absence of a cognitive disability. Prodigious savants are those individuals whose abilities would be considered phenomenal or genius even in a person without any limitations or special diagnosis of impairment. The most common trait of these prodigious savants is their seemingly limitless mnemonic skills, with many having eidetic or photographic memories. Indeed, prodigious savants are extremely rare, with fewer than one hundred noted in more than a century of literature on the subject which changed the course of mankind.
Some famous historical figures who are believed to have displayed some level of autistic tendencies :
Nikola Tesla
Thomas Edison
Albert Einstein
Henry Ford
Thomas Jefferson
Michelangelo
Isaac Newton
Mark Twain
Nostradamus
